Biography
Dr. Adnan Ahmad Qazi is serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, Cholistan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur. He joined the institution in November 2018 and has since held a series of academic and administrative responsibilities at the university.
Dr. Qazi earned his PhD in Zoology from Government College University Faisalabad (CGPA: 3.52/4.00) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), Vice Chancellor, University of Punjab, Lahore. His doctoral thesis focused on pesticide residues, biodiversity and riverine ecosystem dynamics along the River Satluj — work that continues to inform his current research agenda.
At CUVAS, Dr. Qazi was appointed as the first Director of Student Affairs (2019) and subsequently served as Associate Director Student Affairs (2019–2020). He has recently been entrusted with three additional institutional portfolios: Additional Registrar – Coordination & Litigation (August 2025), Director Planning and Development (November 2025), and Public Relations Officer (November 2025). He also served as Officer In-charge of the Department of Zoology in 2024.
His research centres on eco-toxicology, freshwater biodiversity, microplastics pollution, and water quality assessment. He has published 27 peer-reviewed articles (15 HEC-recognized) in national and international journals, including studies appearing in PLoS ONE, Fishes, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Brazilian Journal of Biology, and Science in One Health. His work has received 66 citations (Google Scholar, h-index: 5). His most recent research investigates the presence of microplastics in freshwater fish species along the Panjnad Barrage, contributing to Pakistan's growing body of environmental monitoring research.
He has supervised more than 30 MPhil Zoology scholars and 8 M. Fisheries students, and produced one PhD (December 2025), with three doctoral candidates currently in progress. His active research group continues to work on heavy metal bioaccumulation, antimicrobial plant extracts in aquaculture, microplastics contamination, and fish disease management.
Before joining CUVAS, Dr. Qazi served as Lecturer in Biology at the University Community College, Government College University Faisalabad. He was also a Research Supervisor under the Pakistan Science Foundation's National Science Talent Farming Scheme (Phase 1 & 2) and served as elected President of the Zoological Society, GCU Faisalabad (2015–2017). He holds an editorial board membership with the International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies and is a member of the National Academy of Young Scientists, Pakistan.
