Department of Rangeland, Forestry and Wildlife

In the heart of Cholistan lies an academic beacon dedicated for sustainable management and preservation of region’s precious resources- The Department of Rangeland Forestry and Wildlife at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS)
Rangelands in Pakistan represent the largest land cover spreading on more than 60% of total land area. About 97 million heads of livestock are dependent upon grazing vegetation contributing almost 11.5% of the national GDP. Thus, this critical link between rangeland management and sustainability of livestock productivity underscores the need for comprehensive education and research. Department of Rangeland Forestry and Wildlife aims to equip the students with the knowledge and skills to effectively steward these vast landscapes.
In addition to rangelands, Pakistan harbors diverse forest ecosystems and abundant wildlife. All of these ecosystems play critical roles in maintaining ecological equilibrium, mitigating climate change, and supporting livelihoods. Recognizing the significance of forestry and wildlife in the socio-economic situation of the country, the Department of Rangeland Forestry and Wildlife at CUVAS is committed to foster a new generation of professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills to safeguard these invaluable resources.
The curriculum of the department is designed in a way to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of rangeland ecology, Pasture management, forestry principles, and wildlife conservation strategies. By imparting theoretical knowledge coupled with hands-on experience through fieldwork and research, the department aims to cultivate such experts that are capable of addressing the various challenges faced by Pakistan's natural landscapes.
