Department of Livestock Management

Introduction

Livestock plays a pivotal role in Pakistan’s agricultural economy and holds a prominent place in the national development agenda. In the Cholistan region, livestock constitutes a substantial share of Punjab’s animal population and serves as the primary source of livelihood for local communities. Recognizing its strategic importance, the Department of Livestock Management was established in 2018 within the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology at the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, Southern Punjab. CUVAS is recognized as one of Pakistan’s rapidly developing public-sector universities, committed to academic excellence and regional development.
The Department is dedicated to developing highly skilled and competent professionals capable of addressing the evolving challenges of semi-commercial and commercial livestock farming. It actively promotes problem-oriented and industry-relevant research aimed at enhancing productivity and overcoming constraints within the dairy and meat sectors. Faculty members are engaged in dynamic research initiatives and regularly contribute to national and international conferences as well as peer-reviewed journals, thereby strengthening both the academic foundation and practical advancement of livestock management in the region.
