Department of animal nutrition was established in 2018 in the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur which is focused on providing the qualified and trained manpower to address the nutritional issues of southern Punjab especially the Cholistan desert. The vision of the department is to assure the food security for human being and sustainable livestock productivity through animal nutrition and feed technologies. The animal nutrition department mainly focuses on teaching and research in the arena of animal feed science and technology. The mission of the animal nutrition department is to play key role in food security and to improve the socio-economic status of livestock farmers. To achieve its mission, research activities of animal nutrition focus on improvement of the nutritive value of low quality feedstuffs through chemical and biological treatments; nutritional evaluation of local forages, crop residues and low grade industrial by-products; efficient and economical ration formulations for poultry and ruminant livestock.; detoxification of naturally occurring toxins to improve the feeding value of indigenous feeds; and recycling of animal wastes in the diets of small and large ruminants. This department has priority to conduct problem oriented research in the field of Animal Nutrition. The graduates from this institute are expected to employ in feed mill at higher and middle management positions, feed analysis laboratories, teaching, research, planning and development, both in private and public sectors. The Department is facilitated with undergraduate and post graduate laboratory. The department of animal nutrition emphasizes the quality education and practical skills of the students.
