Biography

Dr. Firasat Hussain (HEC approved supervisor for PhD), is an Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Cholistan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur, Pakistan. He got his BS(HON) Microbiology Degree from Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), Kohat in 2008. He pursued his M.Phil. degree in Microbiology from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore. After M.Phil., in 2013, He won Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) for PhD studies. He joined the “Yunnan Institute of Microbiology, Yunnan University, Kunming”, China under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wen Jun Li. Apart from his PhD studies, he was also involved in training and mentoring of undergraduate and Master students of the department. His areas of Specialization are Molecular Biology and Bacteriology. In 2018, He joined Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur as Assistant Professor. He is actively involved in undergraduate and post graduate teaching and research activities in the Department of Microbiology.

• Isolation, Identification, and characterization of pathogenic microbes of veterinary and human importance
• Isolation and characterization of industrially important microorganisms
• To explore Bacterial diversity of Extreme environments (desert/hot spring)
• Polyphasic taxonomy of the novel bacterial candidates
• Probe into the bacterial biodiversity of extreme environments by routine laboratory
• Metagenomic study of Extreme environment
• Role of biochemical's parameters on the distribution of bacteria diversity in these Environments
• To screen and select of industrial microorganisms for novel functional genes, Microbial metabolites and enzymes.
• To study the unique mechanisms of extremophilic microorganisms to adapt those extreme environments.

• Participation in seven months short training course entitled “Environmental Sampling” from March to September 2009 at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore Punjab, Pakistan.
• Practical Training on “Molecular Techniques (PCR/RTPCR) for Diagnostic of Animal Microbial Diseases” during September 23-26, 2009 at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore Punjab, Pakistan.
• Workshop of practical training in “Propagation of new castle disease virus in chicken Embryos and detection of its immunogenic protein using SDS-PAGE” during July 12 -15, 2010 at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore Punjab, Pakistan.
• “Water testing and environmental monitoring” training program from 28th May to 1st June 2012 at Microbiology laboratory of BF Biosciences Limited Plant Lahore Punjab, Pakistan.
• Participant in national workshop on “Hepatitis C” at Department of Microbiology on 6th March, 2008 at Kohat university of Science & Technology Kohat KPK, Pakistan.
