Surgery
The Department of Surgery at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, is actively engaged in veterinary surgical education, clinical services and research. Veterinary surgery is a specialized branch of veterinary medicine covering surgical procedures performed by competent veterinary surgeons. The department's scope includes orthopedics involving bones, joints and muscles, soft tissue surgery involving the skin, body cavities and major organ systems, and neurosurgery.
The CUVAS team of veterinary surgeons has a broad range of expertise and clinical experience and provides comprehensive consultation and surgical services to animal owners and referring veterinarians. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging facilities, including digital X-ray and advanced ultrasound. Two fully functional operation theaters are used for student training and small-animal surgical procedures and are equipped with emergency equipment, modern anesthesia machines and continuous oxygen supply systems.
The department's mission is to provide high-quality surgical care, develop future veterinary surgical professionals and advance the field through education, clinical practice and translational research. It aims to strengthen research programs integrated with surgical practice and introduce postgraduate M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs. The department also emphasizes professional behavior, practical skills, innovative surgical techniques and state-of-the-art procedures to improve veterinary patient care.
