A university built around one purpose

Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences trains the veterinarians, animal scientists and food technologists that Pakistan's livestock economy depends on.

Who we are

CUVAS is a public sector university in Bahawalpur, southern Punjab. Established in 2014 and chartered as an independent, degree-awarding institution under the CUVAS Act 2018, the university exists to harness and develop the full potential of the livestock resources of Cholistan and southern Punjab.

That mandate shapes everything here. Teaching is built on working clinics and farms rather than lecture halls alone; research is directed at the diseases, breeds and production systems of this region; and extension services carry the results back out to the farmers who need them.

Our objectives

  • Develop the livestock, poultry, wildlife and allied sectors of Cholistan and southern Punjab
  • Establish a modern centre of education and research in veterinary and animal sciences
  • Transfer knowledge to farming communities through extension services and hands-on training
  • Produce graduates with the skills the livestock industry actually needs
  • Foster research excellence and the commercialisation of that research
The livestock sector contributes 58.6% to agriculture's value-added and 11.4% to the national GDP — CUVAS is dedicated to contributing to that growth through the commercialisation of research.

Direction

Vision & mission

To be a centre of excellence in veterinary and animal sciences whose graduates and research measurably improve livestock productivity across Pakistan.

To emerge as a modern seat of education and research in veterinary and animal sciences, developing the full potential of the livestock resources of Cholistan and southern Punjab.
To produce skilled graduates and applied research for the livestock, poultry, dairy and allied industries, and to transfer that knowledge to farming communities through continuing education and extension services.
The Quality Enhancement Cell monitors programme standards against Higher Education Commission criteria, while professional degrees are accredited by the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council.

Leadership

Who leads the university

The Governor of Punjab is Chancellor of the university; day-to-day academic and administrative leadership rests with the Vice Chancellor.

Vice Chancellor's message

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tariq Javed

Leads the university's academic and administrative affairs, with a stated focus on skills that make graduates “a game changer in the livestock sector”.

The Governor of the Punjab is the Chancellor of the university, as provided for in the CUVAS Act 2018, and presides over convocation.
The Pro-Chancellor supports the Chancellor in the governance of the university and its statutory bodies.
