Biography

Dr. Zahid Farooq is a Zoologist, researcher, and academic with multidisciplinary expertise in wildlife biology, conservation, ecology, herpetology, parasitology, avian biology, poultry science, animal nutrition, reproductive biology, toxicology, and animal health. He holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, with research on gastrointestinal helminths of ruminants and ethno-veterinary practices in Cholistan, along with M.Phil. and M.Sc. research on snakes of Southern Punjab and Malakand. He has extensive professional experience with the Punjab Wildlife & Parks Department, serving as District Wildlife Officer, Assistant Director Wildlife (Research) and Deputy Director Wildlife, with responsibilities in wildlife conservation, management, research, and capacity building. His research integrates field ecology, parasitology, DNA barcoding, molecular characterization, biochemical and hematological analysis, histopathology, experimental studies, and molecular docking. His recent research focuses on Japanese quail and poultry production, nutrition, reproductive performance, toxicology, oxidative stress, and phytogenic interventions, including Moringa oleifera, vitamins, selenium, honey, and essential oils. He also conducts research on grey francolin production, nutrition, reproductive performance, and conservation. Dr. Farooq has 52 journal publications up to 2026, along with a book chapter and conference presentations, and has supervised 6 Ph.D. and 38 M.Phil. students. His overall research profile integrates wildlife conservation, biodiversity, molecular biology, animal production, environmental toxicology, and applied zoological and veterinary research, with particular relevance to wildlife resources, animal health, and sustainable animal management in Pakistan.
