Biography

Dr. Firasat Hussain is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at Department of Microbiology, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur. He holds a PhD in Microbiology from Yunnan University, China, along with an M.Phil. and BS in Microbiology from Pakistan. He is passionate about microbial diversity, antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, environmental microbiology, biotechnology, and extremophile research. His research focuses on exploring microorganisms adapted to challenging environments such as deserts, saline environments, and industrial settings, and understanding their potential for scientific, environmental, and biotechnological applications. He has published research papers, book chapters, and abstracts in national and international scientific publications and has presented his research at national and international conferences. He is actively involved in teaching, postgraduate research supervision, and mentoring young researchers, with M.Phil. and PhD research covering areas such as antimicrobial resistance, infectious diseases, microbial biotechnology, and environmental microbiology. He has led and contributed to research projects on the isolation and identification of bacteria from the different Deserts and the diversity and ecological functions of microorganisms from extreme environments. His professional development includes extensive training and participation in biosafety, biorisk management, laboratory safety, diagnostic laboratory capacity, safe sample handling, and One Health initiatives. He is a Life Member of the Pakistan Biological Safety Association. Alongside teaching and research, contributes to academic publishing as a Co-Editor at PSM Publishers and Assistant Managing Editor of PSM Microbiology. He also serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals, including Acta Ecologica Sinica, Brazilian Journal of Microbiology, Advancements in Life Sciences, and Polish Journal of Environmental Studies. Through his teaching, research, supervision, and professional activities, He is committed to discovering the diversity and potential of microorganisms, developing young researchers, and contributing to solutions in health, environmental sustainability, and biotechnology.
